Have you taken a look at the recently published Out magazine’s Power 50 in 2018list yet?
Am I the only one who is pleasantly surprised to several Black and Latin faces on the list?
For more than a decade, LGBT media staple Out magazine releases its own Power 50 list to highlight the influences of LGBTQ leaders and personalities over a calendar year. Through activism, entertainment, story-telling and entrepreneurship, these honorees are widely-familiar names, of which their popularity plays into the process of selection.
Though I am ecstatic to see its cuturally-diverse mentioning of leaders, people like writer Justin Simien and organizational leader Darren Walker making the list for the first time makes me smile as I have wonder whether the platforms of theirs and Black and Latin women like them would get great shine on a mainstream LGBTQ publication.
